Home of Golf Bar: Nobody can say for sure who invented golf, but what is certain is that Scotland played the biggest role in shaping the game as we know it today. In fact, by the mid-1400s the Scots loved the game so much it was worrying their king: the earliest written reference to the word ‘golf’ came in 1457, when, concerned that fanatics of the new sport were neglecting their archery practice, James II of Scotland decreed that golf should be banned.
