Brass 19th Century Reproduction Compass
Whilst it is known that magnetic compasses of a rudimentary type were in use in the Mediterranean at least as early as the 12th Century, it was not until the 1870s that Sir William Thompson (Lord Kelvin) was able to successfully combine all of the requirements for a good dry-card compass and mount it in a well-designed binnacle. Beautifully constructed in brass, this model is a reproduction of a dry card binnacle compass from the 19th Century. 4cm x 4 x 7 comes complete with attractive gift box. Great present idea for any age of explorer!
